BOB MAZZER & THE LONDON UNDERGROUND // MATT HART & LONDON'S SOCIAL SCENE

Bob Mazzer and the London Underground.
" I was interested in society. I loved people being themselves on the tube, not following the herd. People who took drinks on the train. There’s a shot of a woman with a beer, I liked all of that. " - Bob Mazzer to 2013, VICE interview.

Bob Mazzer documented the London underground during the 1980s, everyday commuting to and from Kings Cross. "everyday i travelled to kings cross and back, and coming home late at night it felt like a party and i felt like the tube was mine, and i was there to take the photographs" (Bob Mazzer to The Daily Telegraph 2013 regarding his 80s images being shown in an art gallery under the name 'underground') Bob Mazzer's most engaging images go beyond the surface and capture moments that are peculiar to underground train travel where people tend to stick to themselves and not engage, people often call London a cold city due to this so its not unusual for a photographe rot be intrigued with the mystique behind the underground.

Later, in 2013 Bob Mazzer returned to his daily commute to attempt to document Londons underground scene once again. Thus showing the social change from the 1980s London underground he managed to document so well to, 21st century London.

Matt Hart and the everyday social scene of London.
"Street photography for me has always been my passion, from an early age I have always enjoyed going out on my own with my camera and photographing the people around me in a candid way."
- Matt Hart to 2013 blog interview.

Hart emphasises the importance of black and white photographs throughout his 40 years of work as he believes 'it creates a raw and personal feel' to every image. His personal reasons for his black and white photography is as a child, all photographs were in black and white however during a house fire he lost all photos from his childhood.
